Mesa Verde offers a spectacular look into the lives of the ancestral Puebloan people who made it their home for over 700 years. An archaeological wonder with hundreds of homes in the rock preserved by overhanging cliff ledges, Mesa Verde is the largest archaeological preserve in the U.S. and the only U.S. national park dedicated to preserving the villages and objects hand-built by ancient civilizations.
Located in southwestern Colorado, 125 miles southeast of Moab, ten miles east of Cortez, Colorado, on US Hwy 160.
Mesa Verde is open year-round, but some of the facilities, tours, and access to archeological sites are seasonal.
To visit Cliff Palace, Balcony House, and Long House, purchase required tickets at the visitor center first. The cliff dwellings are closed during the winter season.
Check the website or their Facebook page, Facebook.com/MesaVerdeNPS, to see what’s available and open at the time of your visit.
Lodging, restaurant, cafeteria, gift shop, and post office are located near the museum.
